Costume Bowling with Pursuit

Justin and I enjoyed a fun night at the bowling alley last Saturday with our young adults ministry Pursuit. On Halloween we will be serving with the 5th-8th graders in putting on a special evening of fun centered around the Lord. So we decided to have something for Pursuit a little earlier. About 40 people from the ministry and their friends came and many of them in costume. No surprise! After all, the best costume received a $50 gift certificate!

Daddy's First Gift for Baby

Yesterday Daddy brought this home for little Anaya. Not only will she be hip with these booties on, she'll never get mixed up with any of the other babies in the hospital nursery who wear...well, not-so-hip booties.

Yay for Birthdays!

So about a week after we celebrated my wonderful husband's birthday, it was my turn on October 6th! Whoopee! I enjoyed a relaxing day at my family's house where my mom made homemade pizza for us, and then a few close friends and family joined us for a yummy dinner at Cheesecake Factory. I got a hot caramel apple cider before my dinner. Mmm, mmm!

Tutty Fruity!

If there's one thing I've learned this summer it's this:

NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE VALUE OF FRUIT!

It all started with wanting to be a little healthier during my pregnancy. But what I didn't realize was how scrumptious a nice, cold, sweet, juicy piece of fruit really would taste on a hot, humid, summer day. At first I bought a few summer plums, not wanting to buy too many lest they rot in my fridge. To my disappointment, they were gone within 2 days, leaving me craving for more. Needless to say, my fruit addiction has resulted in a fruit frenzy to the point that today, if you opened my fridge, you would find a medley of watermelon, pineapple, pears, apples, plums, bananas, pluots, and nectarines. And nothing goes bad! So I put together a few tips to get your fruity taste buds watering:

1. Always have variety! Nobody wants to eat two apples a day, but chances are if there are more choices, your fruit intake will increase greatly.

2. Buy what's on sale. Fruit can be expensive, so go for the sale items. I've found that Times Supermarket in Hawaii usually has the best-priced produce of all the grocery stores.

3. Let fruits ripen before putting them in the fridge. If you leave your fruits out on the counter for a day or two before refrigerating them, you'll find that the fruits will be softer and sweeter when you do want to eat them. Unripe fruits can actually deter those fruity taste buds.

4. Cut up some fruits ahead of time. Whenever I get a melon or pineapple, I always try to cut it into cubes and place it in a covered bowl in the fridge. That way, when you feel that fruity craving coming on, you can reach into the fridge and find fruit that's ready-to-eat!

And my absolute favorite...

5. Freeze your bananas! I don't know about you, but bananas seem to have the smallest margin of edible life than any other fruit I enjoy. It seems they're green for a few days, ripe for one, and the next day they're already brown! So we've come up with an AMAZING solution. Right when those bananas turn perfectly ripe, peel them and cut them into semi-thick slices. Place the sliced bananas in a container and freeze them in the freezer. The bananas last longer, taste better, and are more easily mixed with other fruits for a yummy fruit salad!

Everyone wants to know, do you have a name yet? We do! In fact, that was pretty much the first thing we had once we found out we were pregnant. After all, we had so many friends having babies too that we needed to copyright our name immediately! So what is it? you ask.

Sarah - (hebrew) Princess
...because she will be a daughter of the King

Anaya - (hebrew) God responded
...because she is an answer to our prayers

...but she will be called "Anaya." We are strategically giving little Anaya a much easier (yet still beautiful) first name in case in the future her career would benefit from a more common name.

64 Days Until Baby!

Sometimes it feels like just yesterday when we discovered there was a little life inside of me. Other times it feels like forever ago. But as we all know, the fall season seems to fly right by us right into Christmas, and that means our little princess is going to be here before we know it! Justin and I couldn't be more excited to have a little one in our family. Who could ask for a better Christmas present than that?
